Unlock the Magic of Mixing Butter in Your Coffee

Butter coffee, keto coffee, bulletproof coffee, whatever you want to call it, has largely become popular due to the keto diet.

If you haven’t heard of the keto diet, it’s a diet where you consume a high amount fat and a low amount of carbs. The goal is to switch your body into Ketosis, where your body will start to burn fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates.

Butter coffee is a perfect way to boost your fat intake, and give your body the fuel it needs to start the day.

By adding fats, butter, and oil to your coffee you create an efficient fat delivery system that gives you a delicious cup of coffee that is high and fat, and low in everything else.

Butter Coffee and Weight Loss

Butter coffee and weight loss are two things that don’t seem like they should go together but they do, kind of like tuna fish and noodles.

The idea of putting a hunk of greasy butter in your coffee might seem a little disgusting at first. Believe me, I had the same reaction. In fact, it reminded me of an embarrassing moment when I mistook a few squares of butter for some yummy cheese.

I was at a fancy wedding and for some reason they had a tray full of sliced butter stacked like a mountain. You can probably imagine what happened. I thought the butter was sliced cheesed, grabbed a couple blocks and popped them in my mouth. It didn’t take long to realize my mistake.

The initial surprise coupled with with realization that I had a wad of pure fat in my mouth, almost made me toss my butter cookies on the dance floor.

Once you can get over the misconception that fat is evil and will you kill you, you can allow yourself to enjoy adding healthy fats to your diet, and possibly losing some weight in the process.

Benefits of Keto Coffee & Keto Diet

I know Keto seems like another fad in the list of trendy diets, and I admit, I’m on the Keto bandwagon. I’m just trying to lose a few pounds and become a healthier person in general.

This is my second go at this diet and I’ve been relatively strict for the past 3 months. I’ve lost about 15lbs so far. That’s a pretty conservative amount compared to the results some people are getting.

I enjoy butter coffee most mornings and find it gives me a much needed burst of energy. I was previously drinking my coffee black but this diet encourages consumption of fat so it’s opened me up to trying a few different things.

Benefits of Keto Coffee

The main benefits of butter coffee are increased energy, and increasing the fat content in your diet without increasing your carb intake. For a few more was to get a little extra energy from your coffee. Check out this post: Hack Your Coffee.

Benefits of Keto Diet

There are many reported benefits of the Keto Diet. Some sound almost magical. The first time I heard or the diet, I thought it sounded like some mystical martial art form. Like, you need to work you way up to a black belt in Keto.

Some of the reported benefits of Ketosis are increased mental clarity, cancer prevention, heart disease prevention, decreased inflamation, fertility, higher energy levels, and many other things.

If something troubles you, type “the problem and ketosis” and I’m sure there will be a ton of articles telling how you can benefit from this diet.

While I am skeptical that keto is kind of cure all for anything that ails you, I also don’t find it hard to believe that we’ve been tricked into believing carbohydrates were good for us so that corporations can profit.

Anyway, this is a coffee blog, and if you are battling a disease, or trying to overcome serious issues please do your research and consult your doctor.

As a coffee drinker, I’m mainly concerned with increased mental clarity, energy levels, and the added benefit of possibly loosing a couple of extra pounds.

Where to Buy Keto Coffee

Great news – You don’t have to buy any special type of coffee to make your own butter coffee/keto coffee. You can use whatever brand of coffee you typically drink. There are two other products needed that you might not have laying around the house, but they are pretty inexpensive and available at the grocery store.

  1. Grass fed Butter
  2. MCT Oil/Coconut oil

First of all it’s actually butter from grass fed cows, not grass fed butter.  That’s for anybody picturing sticks of butter grazing in the fields all day. I have no idea what all the other cows are eating, probably dirt and crickets.  Do you really want dirt and cricket fed butter in your coffee? These cows eat strictly grass like civilized beasts.

Okay, moving on. I use Kerrygold Irish Butter, and I pick this up from Walmart. You can probably use whatever type you want, but this brand is popular in the Keto community.

For MCT oil, I use BBF (Better Body Foods) Liquid Coconut Oil. I prefer the liquid kind, because it’s not as messy, and my wife mixes it with ice coffee, and does not want chunks of coconut oil floating in her coffee. Nobody likes chunky coffee. You can find BBF Coconut Oil at Walmart too, but we get this one from Amazon and save a little with the subscription since we have been using it for awhile. Here is a link to the coconut oil I purchase.

How to Make Butter Coffee or Keto Coffee

So, this is how I do it. I’m sure there are a million other methods out there.

I use a Magic Bullet to swirl together all the ingredients and produce a pretty awesome cup of joe. This isn’t the best blender out there, but it works great for this. It’s small, affordable, and you can drink right from the cup you do the mixing in.

Ingredients

  • 16oz Hot Coffee
  • 1 tablespoon Kerigold’s Irish Butter
  • 1 tablespoon MCT oil
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

Pour your coffee into the magic bullet cup or other blender.  Slice off 1 tablespoon butter and drop it in the hot coffee. Add 1 tablespoon MCT oil and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Screw on the blade and shake it up a bit. IMPORTANT:  Unscrew the blade slightly to release the pressure. If you don’t do this you might have a messy explosion. It happened to me a few times before I figured this out, and oily coffee is not fun to clean up. Just make sure you tighten the blade back up, and then you’re ready to blend. It all takes a few pulses and it’s ready to drink.  Dump in your favorite cup or mug and enjoy. Or drink right from you magic bullet.

Make sure you tighten the blade back up and blend.  Dump it in your favorite mug and enjoy, or drink it right from your magic bullet – no extra dishes.
