I need stronger coffee and I think you probably do too.
We all have those mornings where we need just a little bit extra to get us going. I’m one of those people that need a little extra help more often than not.
Let’s face it. It’s pretty difficult to get out of bed when you need to pack lunches for the kids, get them dressed, drop them off at school, get yourself dressed, drive to work on a highway full of horn blasting buttholes and punch the clock on time.
Add all of these things to a night of binge watching The Walking Dead, and a few more drinky drinks then you should’ve had, and you might find yourself craving a little extra kick in the morning.
Well, don’t worry. There are some ways for you to get a cup of stronger coffee. Here are 5 simple hacks to help you get more from your morning cup.
Does Light Roast Coffee Have More Caffeine?
Roasting the beans is what gives coffee its flavor. While darker roast might have a more robust flavor, your light roasts tend to pack more punch.
Now, I have to say, there are differing opinions on this one; however, the consensus is that if you are measuring in scoops, a light roast will have more caffeine. If you’re measuring by weight, the dark roast will have more.
My guess is that most average joe drinkers aren’t pulling out their digital scales on a hectic Monday morning, so, I’m going to say, go ahead and opt for the light roast if you’ve had a rough night. Mornings when I need a little extra kick, I go with a lighter roast, besides, I kind of prefer the flavor anyway.
Light roasts contain about 1.37% caffeine, and dark roasts contain about 1.31%. That’s not much difference, but every little bit helps.
Try combining a light roast with one or two of the methods below, and see if you don’t come off your cup ready to conquer the world, or at least ready to get to work on time. Check out this post to see where you can order coffee online.
Grind Your Own Robusta Beans
I like my coffee beans like I like my women – ground fine. Wait, that doesn’t quite work. The point is that the finer the beans are ground, the more caffeine will be extracted.
If you grind your own beans, leave them in the grinder a bit longer to make sure you have more caffeine in your cup.
Sorry, my son picked this image. Keep grinding Kermit! We’re going to need some stronger coffee!
Arabica beans make up most of the world’s coffee production, but Robusta beans contain more caffeine. In fact, they contain almost double the caffeine of arabica beans. So, we can go with a fine ground robusta, to get us going on a tough morning.
If you’re at the store and are having a hard time remembering which bean has more caffeine, just remember the extra caffeine will “ro-busta” cap in your ass!
Add a Shot of Espresso
This tip is one of my favorites. It’s like adding a shot of whiskey to your beer. It’s just going to get you where you need to be a little bit faster.
Espresso is concentrated coffee. It’s produced by forcing close to boiling water through finely ground beans, and we already know, finely ground beans mean more caffeine.
Not everybody has an espresso machine lying around the house but don’t worry. You can pick up a bottle of Monin’s Espresso concentrate on Amazon. It will add about 80 mg per oz of caffeine to your coffee. Doing this is a quick and easy way to up the caffeine in your coffee.
FYI- The name of this product has been changed to cold brew concentrate. From the manufacturer: Our Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate is the new & improved version! Enjoy the same great taste profile and ease of use as an espresso substitute as before, with a new name and now made with no artificial ingredients.
Monin’s Concentrate is quick and easy way for you to get a stronger cup of coffee on those mornings when you need to kick things up a notch.

The FDA recommends a maximum of 400 milligrams of caffeine per day, but hey, they’re not the boss of us, right?

I attempted to reach them to find out when they’d replenish their inventory. I will update when I have an answer. – Good News! Black Insomnia has replenished their inventory – Read Reviews and Check Price on Amazon.

According to Caffeine Informer, there are 728 mg of caffeine in a 12 oz cup of coffee. Death Wish also claims to be the world’s strongest. I have news for you guys, there can be only one! You should arm wrestle or something. View Death Wish on Amazon.

Biohazard also claims to be the world’s strongest coffee, but with 928mg per 12 oz cup, they might just be. That’s more than twice the FDA recommended dose and 200mg more than Death Wish. If anyone has found a stronger cup, let me know in the comments. Check Price.
